Certain challenging situations in life cause us to get a very awful feelings and make us feel worried about things. On those occasions we may experience a multitude of both physical and emotional symptoms including palpitations. sweating. feeling shortness of breath or smothering. sensation of choking. chest pains or tightness. nausea or gastrointestinal problems. Even the fear of “going crazy” or losing control or worrying about anxiety itself, for example worrying about when panic attacks might happen.
Those are all signs of anxiety.
Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. This is normal. But for some people, these feelings of anxiety are more than just passing worries or a stressful day at work. Your anxiety may not go away for many weeks, months, or years. It can worsen over time, sometimes becoming so severe that it interferes with your daily life. When this happens, it’s said that you have an anxiety disorder.
There are several different conditions within the spectrum of anxiety disorders, social anxiety, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, ossessive compulsive disorder (OCD), selective mutism and specific phobias.
